Atlantic Airlines
Richard Branson was best
known for Virgin Records in the early 80’s. This was
a record label that signed many big stars including: the Rolling
Stones and Janet Jackson. Then, in 1984, Richard Branson announced
that within three months an airline providing high quality
travel service that was a good value for customers would be
introduced. True to his word, Virgin Atlantic Airways was
born three months later.
Over one million passengers
flew on Virgin Atlantic Airways by the end of the decade.
They became the first airline to offer individual TV’s
to business passengers. Richard sold Virgin Music to Thorn
EMI in 1992. He invested the profits into Virgin Atlantic.
In doing so Virgin was able to improve already good travel
service. That was the year they also introduced the first
super economy service.
Throughout the 90’s,
Virgin Atlantic bought new plans. They worked to expand their
networks. Virgin Atlantic also worked to continue improving
service. Richard Branson sold a 49% stake in the company to
Singapore Airlines in 1999. At the time, Virgin Atlantic Airways
was valued at a minimum of £1.225bn. By the end of the
decade, Virgin Atlantic was now providing services to 25 destinations
throughout the world. Virgin Atlantic was voted OAG Airline
of the year in 2001.
The year 2003 saw the
launch of Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class Suite. This
suite provided upper class passengers with the longest flat
bed flying. Virgin Atlantic provides convenient and comfortable
travel solutions for passengers to that they can have an enjoyable
