Silkair

In 1975 Tradewinds Pte Ltd was founded. This was the tour and travel division of Singapore Airlines. The main focus of this travel company was to develop and wholesale holiday tours. They later began offering air charters and were now offering more travel services than originally intended. Therefore, Tradwinds the Airline was born in 1989. At first the airline offered holiday travel destinations. They flew to places like Pattaya, Phuket, Hatyai, Kuantan and Tioman. Later they started offering regional business travel destinations. Some of the new travel destinations included: Jakarta, Phnom Penh and Yangon.

The airline was re-named SILKAIR in 1992. They know offered much more than holiday destinations. The Tours and Travel Division of the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of SILKAIR. Their name was Tradewinds Tours and Travel Pte. Ltd.

Silkair has one of the youngest fleets in their area. The fleet has six Airbus A320-200 and four Airbus A319-100 aircraft. Silkair flies to 25 destinations in Asia. They fly to areas in Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and the Vietnam.

They strive to provide comfortable and convenient air travel solutions. Some of their flights even include the digEplayer, which is complimentary for business class travelers and can be rented for others. This is a handheld device using video-on-demand technology to provide entertainment options. There are several movies from one can select to watch. This is just one example of how Silkair works to provide comfort and extras for their passengers.

Silkair is recognized for the excellent travel service they provide. They have won many awards over the years. In 1995, 1996 and 1997 they the Best Airline (Regional) award. This awards is given by TTG Asia PTN Asia Pacific. Other similar awards have been won as well. They have also won awards for their website. In 2002, 2003-2004 they won the Global Web Award.
