Loganair
Loganair
Ltd has provided air travel since 1962. They started out as
an air taxi service for the Logan Construction Company Ltd.
Almost from the beginning, it was realized that there was
a demand for scheduled travel services as well. The fleet
began to grow and the travel network continued to expand.
They started working an inter-island scheduled network in
Orkney in 1964 and later Shetland in 1970. They introduced
air ambulance services in 1967. The areas that were covered
included Coll, Colonsay, Oronsay, Mull and Oban.
Loganair’s network
continued to grow. This is in part due to the fact that British
Airways transferred “thin” routes to Loganair.
Loganair introduced an air service between Glasgow and Derry
in 1979. Loganair now wanted to start working on establishing
many business routes. In 1980 Loganair began servicing the
route from Belfast to Edinburgh.
Business travelers became a large part of Loganair’s
travelers. They began to acquire larger aircraft. They entered
the jet market in the early 1980’s. With the addition
of new aircraft they were able to commence services to the
Channel Islands and Mainland Europe.
In the 90’s came
some harder times for the airline. Their cross-border services
were transferred to Manx Airlines in 1994. Other transfers
were made too. In recent years their routes have grown again,
as has their fleet. Loganair is synonymous with aviation in
Scotland. They service local areas in Scotland and provide
life-line services to remote islands. For the business traveler
who flies between Scotland’s various cities, Loganair
provides them with the service they need. Loganair has a franchise
partnership with British
Airways. This enables them to serve a network outside
of the local market. Some of their other destinations include
Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Anyone flying with Loganair
receives quality service and hospitality. Loganair is also
a member of oneworld. This allows their reach to be global.
Oneworld is an alliance of airlines. Other members include
American Airlines, British
Airways, Cathay
Pacific and Qantas. This allegiance provides travelers
with a network of more than 550 destinations.
