GB Airways
The Bland Group owns GB Airways.
This group includes a specialist tour operator, a travel firm
and a hotel as well as a few other companies. In 1931, an
aircraft took off from Gibraltar and headed for Tangier. This
started Gibraltar Airway on their way. Today the airline’s
specializes in travel flights within the Mediterranean and
North Africa. This specialty can be traced back to the early
days of aviation. GB Airways is a family-owned travel company.
The airway represented Imperial Airways/BOAC in Gibraltar
during World War II. In 1947, GB Airways started working with
British European Airways who provide services between London
and Gibraltar. And Gibraltar Airways took care of flights
between Rock and Morocco.
GibAir operated scheduled
services from Gibraltar as well as charters to France and
Portugal for 30 years. In 1989 they wanted to expand their
routes. The moved their operations to the UK. Under the name
of GB Airways Ltd, they now operated.
For 30 years, GibAir operated
scheduled travel services from Gibraltar, primarily to Morocco
and also carried out charters to Portugal and France. Their
long-standing relationship was made even better in 1995. This
is when GB Airways became a British Airways franchise operator.
GB Airlines now has over
900 employees. When the new millennium arrived, they renewed
their franchise agreement with British
Airways. The agreement was recently extended to go through
2010. GB Airlines has also launched flights to 10 new travel
destinations. They have become a more prominent UK airline
and increased their fleet size in doing so. Back in October
of 2004, they announced that they plan to open a base in Manchester.
In May of 2005 they have plans to begin travel flights to
Malaga, Malta, Paphos in Cyprus, Madeira and Tenerife. GB
Airways continues to provide good service and to adapt to
the changing needs and wants of the market.
If you are planning a trip
in the near future consider buying travel insurance
to fit yor needs. If it is a single holiday then a simple
single trip travel insurance policy will
suffice, this will insure you against any accidents, delays
and lost baggage during your trip.
