GB Airways

The Bland Group owns GB Airways. This group includes a specialist tour operator, a travel firm and a hotel as well as a few other companies. In 1931, an aircraft took off from Gibraltar and headed for Tangier. This started Gibraltar Airway on their way. Today the airline’s specializes in travel flights within the Mediterranean and North Africa. This specialty can be traced back to the early days of aviation. GB Airways is a family-owned travel company. The airway represented Imperial Airways/BOAC in Gibraltar during World War II. In 1947, GB Airways started working with British European Airways who provide services between London and Gibraltar. And Gibraltar Airways took care of flights between Rock and Morocco.

GibAir operated scheduled services from Gibraltar as well as charters to France and Portugal for 30 years. In 1989 they wanted to expand their routes. The moved their operations to the UK. Under the name of GB Airways Ltd, they now operated.

For 30 years, GibAir operated scheduled travel services from Gibraltar, primarily to Morocco and also carried out charters to Portugal and France. Their long-standing relationship was made even better in 1995. This is when GB Airways became a British Airways franchise operator.

GB Airlines now has over 900 employees. When the new millennium arrived, they renewed their franchise agreement with British Airways. The agreement was recently extended to go through 2010. GB Airlines has also launched flights to 10 new travel destinations. They have become a more prominent UK airline and increased their fleet size in doing so. Back in October of 2004, they announced that they plan to open a base in Manchester. In May of 2005 they have plans to begin travel flights to Malaga, Malta, Paphos in Cyprus, Madeira and Tenerife. GB Airways continues to provide good service and to adapt to the changing needs and wants of the market.
