Nottingham residents should ensure that their insurance cover is adequate

According to the results of a recent survey carried out by a UK insurance company residents that live in the Nottingham area are at double the risk of becoming a victim of burglary than those living in other parts of the country.

The survey has been carried out previously too, and Nottingham has come top of the list both years running when it comes to being the most likely place to become a victim of burglary.

Based on these results, those living in the Nottingham area should ensure that they have home insurance against theft, and to make sure that the level of cover that they have is adequate based on the type of belongings and equipment they have in the home.

The survey was carried out by Endlsleigh Insurance, and showed that residents from the Nottingham area were twice as likely to make a claim for household theft than those in other areas.

Leeds and Hull came second and third respectively in the league table of places in the country where residents are most likely to become victim to this type of crime. Those least likely to become a victim of burglary, according to the results, are those living in the Guildford area.

The insurance company carried out an analysis of claims going back four years for household burglaries in order to determine which were the most likely places and the most unlikely places to fall victim to such crime.

However, Nottingham MP Graham Allen was unimpressed with the findings.

He stated: 'Last year we dismissed the Endsleigh survey as it was shown to be not very thorough and didn't take into account a number of factors. The criticism stands this year. In Nottingham we have one of the best reductions in crime over the last 18 months of anywhere in the country. It's just sloppy for people to go back to ideas about what's going on in the city. We are having to work very hard to shake off our reputation.'
