Recent reports have indicated that many drivers could see the cost of their car insurance shoot up in the near future, and this is through a combination of a changing in the banding of some vehicles, such as 4X4s, which will push them into a more expensive band, coupled with an increase in fraudulent insurance claims by driver as well as by organized criminals that specialize in this type of criminal activity. Even with increased premiums, however, many people in the UK remain apathetic and continue to insure their car with the same company, despite paying over the odds on their premiums.

The Chief Executive of Insurancewide commented: 'There are so many brands on the market and no one insurer can cover everyone, so premiums are bound to vary. A broker only searches a certain proportion of the market. For example, AA Insurance has about 20 insurers on its site, including Norwich Union, but not Norwich Union Direct. Using a comparison service can help you make a saving of between £100 and £250 a year.'
