As with many other types of insurance cover the cost of insuring a pet in the UK is on the rise, and because of this research has revealed that only one fifth of pet dogs and one eighth of pet cats in the UK actually have pet insurance.
However, experts have warned that consumers should think about what they would do if their pet needed treatment in the future, as without valuable insurance cover this could prove extremely costly, and could result in the pet's owner having to make difficult and even heartbreaking decisions.
According to research the cost of treatment and medical attention from veterinary surgeons have rocketed over recent years, with consumers in London having to face rises of around fifteen percent on pet treatment fees over the last year, consumers in the South East facing rises of around ten percent, and consumers in other parts of the UK facing rises of around eight percent.
This means that if your pet suffers illness or injury the cost of treatment and medication could be extortionate, and unless you have plenty in savings to shell out for such an eventuality having no insurance could mean the difference between getting treatment for your pet or having to consider other options in the event of serious illness or injury.
Industry professionals have warned that the rising fees being charged by veterinary surgeries will have an impact on the cost of pet insurance, but that having insurance could work out way cheaper over the long term than taking a gamble on your pet's health and having to find huge lump sums in the future.
One spokesperson from Marks & Spencer Money stated: 'Drug costs, paying for new procedures and equipment, and rising wage bills are all putting vet fees under pressure and that will have an impact on the cost of insurance.'
