Inadequate insurance cover despite bad weather warnings

When it comes to contents and home insurance recent surveys and figures have shown that many households in the UK have inadequate cover, and in some cases no cover at all, leaving them open to financial implication in the event of damage, accidents, loss, and theft. Now there is even more concern about this issue after severe weather warnings were issued with regards to gale force winds and flooding in parts of the UK.

According to research carried out by American Express and the British Insurance Brokers’ Association, although these severe weather warnings have been issued twenty percent of consumers in the UK do not have enough home insurance cover to provide them with adequate protection in the event of flood damage or storm damage from the high winds that have been predicted.

The research also showed that in some cases there was no insurance cover in place at all, so some consumers would not even benefit from partial protection in the event of damage to their homes and contents. With storms set to cause damage in areas all around the country consumers are being urged by experts in the field to take out cover for their homes so that they can at least recoup the financial cost of storm related damage to their homes.

Nearly sixty flood warnings were issued by the Environment Agency recently, and these floods are set to cause damage in various locations across the UK. Winds of around eighty miles per hour could also be experienced in some areas according to the Met office, and these could also cause severe damage to some homes. Consumers are advised to check their policies and see if they have cover for storm damage, and if not to get their policies upgraded.
