Cars
Volkswagen has become the largest producer of automobiles
in Europe. The history of Volkswagen is complex and actually
began when Adolph Hitler told Ferdinand Porshe to create “A
car for the people.” This was in the middle of the 1930’s.
In 1938 the first Volkswagen car was introduced. This car
became known as the “beetle.”
The “Gesellshaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagen
MBH” company was founded in 1937. In 1938, it was renamed
Volkwagenwerk GmbH.” The company produced military vehicles
during World War II.
When Word War II ended, the responsibility for Volkswagenwerk
went to The British Military Government. Mass products of
the VW Beetle began at this time. The popularity of this car
continued to grow. Over the years, VW continued to increase
their product base with many vehicles including the Volkswagen
Bus. In 1955 the one millionth Volkswagen Beetle was produced.
The Beetle has various car insurance groups
ranging from insurance group 6 to car insurance group 15.
Volkswagen broke the world car production record on February
17, 1972. To date, 15,007, 034 Beetle units had been assembled.
This was more than the number of Model T’s that were
produced between the years of 1908 to 1927.
The Passat became the first model of the new generation
of Volkswagens to go into production in 1973. This car had
front-wheel drive and a water-cooled four-cylinder engine.
The Passat has insurance groups ranging from car insurance
group 11 to insurance group 17.
Many more cars followed in the years to come including the
Golf and the Golf GTI. The production of the second-generation
Golf began in 1983. IT was designed for a highly automated
assembly process. For the first time in vehicle production
robots were used. The insurance group of the Golf ranges from
car insurance group 4 to insurance group
17.
Volkswagen started producing the Touareg in 2002. This is
a luxury off-road vehicle. This larger style car has various
insurance groups ranging from 15 to car insurance
group 19.
