Renault
Cars
Louis Renault was the genius behind the start of Renault
the automobile. However, when he tinkered with his first car,
he did not have money to create his own company. His brothers
Marcel et Fernand created Renault Frères company in
1899. They did not include their younger brother Louis as
a partner. The brothers knew how important it was to enter
their cars in races. It was good advertising and was done
from the start. Marcel Renault tragically died during one
of the races.
The real turning point for Renault came in 1905. They had
an order for 250 taxis and it was necessary to reorganize
their company for mass production. In time they became the
leading car manufacturer in France. Their taxis were a great
hit in Paris and London. Some were even exported to New York
and Buenos Aires. In 1909, Louis’s brother Fernand died
and the company was renamed Louis Renault Automobile Company.
Louis cars were becoming more popular and he was making cars,
vans, small buses and more.
Before World War I, the Renault factory made about 4200 vehicles
a year. Some Renault cars were used in the war to take soldiers
to the front and this earned them another spot in history
as aiding in the first victory over the Germans. Changes were
made at the Renault Factories so they could help with the
war efforts making everything from trucks to ambulances. Renault
became internationally known for all their help to the war
efforts and the company moved into 49 countries.
Renault would eventually be nationalized by the provisional
government at the time.
By the time of their ten-year anniversary, the company had
produced 1 million vehicles. By the time 1954 rolled around
they had produced 500,000 4CV. Renault now employed 51,000
people. They also accounted for 35% of the national automobile
production.
In 1961, the innovative Renault 4 was introduced. The car
had five doors and front-wheel drive. Next they brought out
a car with four disk brakes. Beginning in the 60’s,
Renault decided to add some sophisticated models to their
line. They started out with the Renault 16. This was a saloon-estate
model and it had a rear hatch. More new cars followed and
were a success.
Renault and Nissan began working together to increase their
rank in the automobile industry. Each company kept their own
identity. Renault took an equity interest in Nissan in 1999.
Both companies are working towards profitable growth through
their alliance. The Renault group is doing rather well these
days. In 2004, their sales increased by 4.2%. They had sold
2,488, 523 that year. They continue to work to provide innovative
cars and to increase their sales and position in the market.
With such a wide selection of cars, the Renault group has
many car insurance groups to choose from.
if you choose the low to mid range engines then you will be
paying a cheap car insurance premium. There are however
many perfromance vehicles in the Renault range that have a
high car insurance group.
