Peugeot
Cars
The oldest automobile manufacturer in the world is said to
be Peugeot. Peugeot’s history does not just include
motorcars. Many bicycles and other products were produced
by Peugeot, although their automobiles made them most famous.
Armand Peugeot became interested in cars. In 1889, Serpollet-Peugeot
becomes the first car to be introduced by Peugeot. The Vis-aVis
was introduced in 1890. Some other models included the L’Eclair
in 1895, the Bebe in 1905, and later the Quadrilette.
Peugeot set up his own company the Société
des automobiles Peugeot in 1896. This company would devote
themselves to manufacturing touring cars and trucks. In 1928,
the first Peugeot to be fitted with a diesel engine is introduced.
In 1929, the car which became known as the 201 was seen at
the Paris Show in October. This trademark of having three
digits with a zero in the middle for car names is still used
for Peugeot’s today. The 201 was the first car in the
world with independent front wheels as a standard feature.
The 401 was introduced in 1934 and was the first car in the
world with a folding roof.
In the 1930’s Peugeot gets out ahead of their competitors
in the introduction of aerodynamic body design. After World
War II, they unveiled the 203. This car featured 4 cylinders
with hemispherical Alpax cylinder heads and V-inclined valve
heads. They continue to offer innovative new cars and features
over the year. Peugeot introduced their first 4-wheel drive
car in 1965. In 1979 Peugeot becomes the first company to
offer a turbo diesel engine.
Over the years that followed, Peugeot continued to introduce
innovative new cars. They often offer creativity and uniqueness.
They are the largest independent motor manufacturer in France.
As Peugeot offer a wide range of cars the car insurance
premium will vary greatly, in fact many of their
cars have a cheap car insurance group compared
with the performance that they possess.
