Jaguar
Motors
Jaguar was founded in Blackpool in nineteen twenty two but
actually developed from a company with a different name and
different production line. The company that eventually spawned
Jaguar cars later down the line was called the ‘Swallow
Sidecar Company’ and was intended to make sidecars for
motorcycles, popular at that time. This early incarnation
of the company was created by William Walmsley and William
Lyons.
Their production levels of sidecars ticked along nicely until
the advent of World War II when they decided to stop production.
But it was before this that they started to tinker with producing
automobiles with nineteen twenty six hailed the ‘Austin
Seven’ a basic mobile produced for the general public
rather than a luxury vehicle, a market which many automobile
manufacturers were producing for at the time. The name of
the company then changed to ‘Swallow Sidecar and Coach
building Co’, moved to a larger production space, necessary
for the increased number of product lines, and also started
producing custom bodies for other large automobile companies.
The first ‘Jaguar’ model was not produced until
nineteen thirty five, when, after yet more name changes, the
company again changed it’s name to Jaguar, and remains
the name in place for the iconic brand that it is today.
The Jaguar brand of cars are prestige models and with that
expect any car insurance premium to be expensive,
with many insurance groups hitting car insurance group 20.
Popular Jaguar car models in the UK include:
The X-Type, a large, stylish and executive
looking car has the minimal engine size of two litres, with
many more higher powered vehicles in the range, up to a massive
three litre V6 engine. Prices range from just under twenty
thousand pounds to over twenty eight thousand pounds.
Jaguar XJ – cars in this range have
a brake horse power of two hundred and forty upwards with
naturally high prices for the status of the Jaguar brand.
Expect to pay upwards of forty thousand pounds for any of
the cars in this range. Along with the price tag comes an
insurance group rating of fifteen.
