Citroen
Like many of the popular car brands / manufacturers, the
Citroen company took its beginnings from the enthusiasm of
a single engineer – Andre Citroen, who launched his
first car called the Type A in 1919. He continued building
upon the positive points and flaws noticed on the first model
with successive creations, including the famous expedition
across the Sahara Desert with one such model, the Citroen
Kegresse (a highly developed model for its time, necessary
from crossing such harsh extremes).
On a more commercial note, rather than merely innovate engineering,
Citroen studied the American market for usual tips and strategies,
having been slightly more advanced than its European cousins
at the time. From the American industry he draw on the principles
of mass production, becoming the first automobile manufacturer
to bring this method to France.
The war clearly inhibited automobile production for Citroen,
however production began anew in nineteen forty nine, demonstrating
their vehicles at the Paris Motor Show – the Citroen
2CV, a simple, front wheel driven car.
From this point onwards Citroen embarked on a large program
of expansion over the years, starting up a large number of
new plants and factories around the world. Locations were
highly diverse and ranged from Saigon in South Vietnam to
Yugoslavia.
Today the Citroen company is seem as one of the pioneers
of automobile production in Europe and throughout the world.
In the year two thousand their total car production was over
one point one million units, also placing highly in the car
of the century awards in Las Vegas. At this prestigious awards
ceremony Citroen had three vehicles placed in the semi-finals,
a sure sign the company is recognised as making a significant
contribution to the industry.
Current prices of Citroen models range from just under eight
thousand pounds to around twenty six thousand pounds. Car
insurance groups start quite low, ranging from one to sixteen.
